The Sense of Spring
by Olin Schwartz
As night turns into light of day, So winter turns to days of spring. With winter gone, we learn again The happiness those days can bring. We smell the fragrance of a flower Than drifts upon the air with ease. We see the burgeoning of leaves and note new life's activities. The singing birds return once more, and frogs begin to vocalize. The sights, the sounds and smells of spring Belong to us to recognize. The sugar-maple trees are tapped. We taste the sassafras anew. We touch the petals of a flower That's moistened by the morning dew. And know again new life, new love. Aware, we grasp the sense of spring As granted us by God above.
In His Steps
"The road is too rough, dear Lord, " I cried, "There are stones that hurt me so. " And He said, "Dear Child, I understand, I walked it long ago."
"But there is a cool, green path, " I said, "Let me walk there for a time." "No child," He gently answered me, "the green road does not climb."
"But I wish that there were friends with me, Who would make my way their own."
"Ah yes, He said, "Gethsemane, Was hard to bear alone."
And so I climbed the stony path Content at last to know, That where my Master had not gone, I would not have to go.
And strangely then I found new friends; The burden grew less sore, As I remembered long ago, He went that way before.

Out of the mouth of God's kids ...
A couple of weeks before Easter a pastor was teaching a Sunday school class of small children about forgiveness and the story of the thief on the cross. Finally, she asked, “And what were Jesus’ last words on the cross?”
A little boy raised his hand and in his deepest voice answered,
“I’ll be back!”

A Prayer for Pentecost
O Spirit of the living God, Thou light and fire divine,
Descend upon Thy church once more, and make it truly Thine.
Fill it with love and joy and power, with righteousness and peace;
Till Christ shall dwell in human hearts and sin and sorrow cease.
Blow, wind of God! With wisdom blow until our minds are free
From mists of errors, clouds of doubt, which blind our eyes to Thee.
Burn, winged fire! Inspire our lips with flaming love and zeal,
To preach to all Thy great good news, God's glorious common weal.

An Angel Called "Mother"
Once upon a time in Heaven there was a child ready to be born.
The child asked God: 'I am told You are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there because I am so small and helpless?'
God replied, 'Among the many angels, I chose two for you. They will be waiting for you. One will be your guardian angel to protect you. The other angel will take care of you. She will sing to you and smile for you and hug and kiss you and love you.'
"The child said, 'Oh Lord, if I have to go now, please tell me the name of the angel who will take care of me.'" And God said 'You will call her "Mother."'
